About AMI-tv
AMI-tv, our accessible channel, is a national English language, descriptive-video, closed-captioned, basic HD digital TV specialty service. Licensed by the CRTC, AMI-tv is part of the basic digital package of TV programming offered by all Class 1 & 2 cable systems and satellite direct-to-home services. AMI-tv broadcasts TV programs from conventional and specialty TV services and foreign-rights holders in open described closed-captioned format for people who are blind, vision-impaired, deaf or hard of hearing - a world first!
Our Programming
AMI-tv broadcasts popular movies and TV shows such as Corner Gas and Rookie Blue, into more than eight million Canadian homes. Described Hollywood Blockbusters including A League of Their Own and A Few Good Men air everyday and described classics such as Casablanca and Gone With the Wind, air every weekend. AMI-tv recently achieved a global first broadcasting, in simulcast with CBC, the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton with live Described Video.
Though AMI-tv is an English–language service, it broadcasts a small amount of French-language programming, up to four hours a week, with description and captioning all in French. Weekly French programs include Little Mosque, Ray Bradbury Theatre, The Border, The Canadians and Emily Of New Moon.
