Sophie Émond holds the position of Special Advisor to the Vice Chair – Québec, Bell Canada. As such she manages the Vice Chair’s office and coordinates various relationships and strategic projects. She oversees all internal and external events for the Vice Chair.
Prior to joining Bell, she acted as Senior Vice-President, Regulatory and Government Affairs at Astral Media Inc from 2000 to 2011. As such, she conducted the corporate relations with Government and regulatory agencies, such as the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and was overseeing the strategic positioning of the company with regards to broadcasting and communications public policies and regulations. During that period she was also a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB).
Ms. Émond began her professional career as an Associate at Ogilvy Renault (Norton Rose), in the department of labour law, a position that she held for two years. From 1992 to 1994 she acted as legal counsel for the federal Department of Communications. She left the public sector to join Heenan Blaikie where she became a partner and practiced in the field of communications law until 2000.
Sophie was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1989, after obtaining a Bachelor of Law degree from the Université de Montréal in 1988. She also holds a Master of Law degree from the London School of Economics (1991).
Sophie has served on a number of boards, including the Canadian Women in Communications, the Youth Media Alliance and CISM, the Université de Montréal radio station. She currently sits on the board and act as Secretary for l’École de danse contemporaine de Montréal.
