Media Accessibility Specialist, Part-Time

AMI is a not-for-profit media company that entertains, informs and empowers Canadians who are blind or partially sighted. Operating three broadcast services, AMI-tv and AMI-audio in English and AMI-télé in French, AMI’s vision is to establish and support a voice for Canadians with disabilities, representing their interests, concerns and values through accessible media, reflection and portrayal.

We are currently looking for a part-time Media Accessibility Specialist. Reporting to the Media Accessibility Supervisor, this role will ensure that AMI’s programming accessibility standards are adhered to through facilitation of various media accessibility elements of Described Video (DV, IDV, Live DV), as well as Closed Captioning, including NER (Certified Live Captioning accuracy).

Responsibilities:

•    Trains internal and external production staff, including the cast, crew, and guests to ensure that all parties are aligned with IDV (Integrated Described Video) objectives and best practices.
•    Maintains quality throughout various production workflows, ensures programs are written and produced in a manner that facilitates accessibility for blind and partially sighted audiences.
•    Maintains continuity and continuous improvement amongst team members by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, relaying lessons, and actions taken to ensure accessibility.
•    Provides quality control of all post-production DV scripts and internal IDV scripts by creating/editing DV scripts, evaluating IDV scripts, verifying accuracy and quality of presentation and reporting shortfalls and recommendations for improvements.
•    Provides expertise and contributes on projects and materials that aid with the evolution of our descriptions practice and standing as leaders in media accessibility (e.g. Participation in DV Best Practices Working Group, and maintenance of related documents and materials.
•    Facilitates live description (Live DV) as assigned, by coordinating all logistical requirements of the production; including, but not limited to, crew selection, training, and rehearsals.
•    Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks and participating in professional associations/societies.
•    Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Requirements

•    College Diploma/Certification in Broadcast/Media, Audio Recording Studies.
•    2 years of related experience
•    Creative writing, audio post-production experience.
•    Deep understanding of production methodologies pertaining to content creation.
•    Experience interacting with crew members on set or in studio an asset. Attention to auditory and visual detail. Ability to work independently and in a team.
•    Working knowledge of groupware tools such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
•    Strong team player that thrives in a highly collaborative environment. Public speaking and presentation skills
•    Ability to perform multiple tasks, schedule priorities and meet deadlines.
•    Ability to work remotely (outside an office setting) and independently.
•    Bilingual in English and French an asset.
