AMI-audio honoured with eight awards for outstanding programming and promotion

Accessible Media Inc. is pleased to announce that its AMI-audio channel was recently recognized with seven international awards for excellence in programming and one national award for radio creative.

“I am extremely proud of the entire AMI-audio team,” says John Melville, Vice-President of Programming and Production for AMI-tv and AMI-audio. “Their dedication to their craft and their unwavering commitment to making content accessible to Canadians of all abilities is admirable. To be recognized across a number of categories at both a national and international level is an honour.”

AMI-audio received four Program of the Year accolades at the International Association of Audio Information Services (IAAIS) 2015 awards including The Guardian This Week in the Newspaper category and Choice Words in the Magazine Digest and Consumer Information category. Additional honours were awarded in the Magazine and Magazine Digest categories. The IAAIS is a worldwide organization comprised of more than 100 independent audio information services which make printed materials accessible in audio formats.

The New York Festivals 2016 International Radio Program Competition recognizes outstanding programming worldwide with entries from more than 30 countries. AMI-audio received two bronze medals: one in the Travel and Tourism category for Mind the Gap: AMI Visits London an episode of Contact providing an in-depth audio tour of one of the world’s great capital cities, and one in the Business or Consumer Issues category for An Open Book, an episode of Contact examining copyright, the Marrakesh Treaty and its implications for blind Canadians. A finalist certificate in the Travel and Arts category was awarded to St. John’s: Through the Narrows, an episode of Mosaic City exploring the people, culture and customs of the capital of Newfoundland.

On the promotions side AMI-audio received its first Crystal Award celebrating the best in Canadian Radio Creative. The Hello, I am a Screen Reader promotional spot, written by Joe Lamanna and produced by the AMI-audio team, won silver in the Stations Promotions Single category.
