Since 1992, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) has been annually observed around the world on December 3. AMI-audio is proud to celebrate the day.

The Pulse, with host Joeita Gupta, will attend the Inclusion by Design event in Brampton, ON. Celebrating the 2019 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Joeita will speak with keynote speakers and exhibitors at the Inclusion by Design event. These interviews will be pre-taped and air during The Pulse.

“In 1992, the United Nations proclaimed the International Day for Persons with Disabilities which has been marked annually since," Joeita says. "It is a way to foster understanding for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities and to promote integration in every walk of life. The Pulse team is delighted to be attending the event in Brampton, Ontario. For me, IDPD is a way to mark the gains made by the disability community and to take stock of what still needs to be done.”

The United Nations states the world population is over 7 billion people and more than one billion people, or approximately 15 per cent of the world's population, live with some form of disability; 80 per cent live in developing countries.

The theme for the 2019 International Day of Persons with Disabilities is "Promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership: taking action on the 2030 Development Agenda." This theme focuses on the empowerment of persons with disabilities for inclusive, equitable and sustainable development as envisaged in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which pledges to "leave no one behind."

This 2019 observance of the IDPD at the UN headquarters will consist of an official opening, a panel discussion on new initiatives for disability inclusion, and a spotlight event on the theme of "Sport for all for peace and development," which will be the opportunity to discuss sport as a powerful enabler of peace and sustainable development through the empowerment of persons with disabilities.

"Sport brings us all together every week," says Brock Richardson, host of AMI-audio's The Neutral Zone. "We all share the same passion and love for sports, regardless of whether it is Para-sports or pro sports. Sports is sports."
