UX/UI Designer (6-month contract)

Accessible Media Inc. (AMI) is a not-for-profit media company that entertains, informs, and empowers Canadians who are blind or partially sighted. Operating three broadcast services, AMI-tv and AMI-audio in English and AMI-télé in French, AMI’s vision is to establish and support a voice for Canadians with disabilities, representing their interests, concerns and values through accessible media, reflection, and portrayal.
AMI is building new digital experiences for our website and apps and are looking for an experienced UX/UI designer to join our team on a 6-month contract basis. You’ll be responsible for using our research and ideas to craft beautiful and accessible product designs, to deliver the best possible user experience for our online audience.

Responsibilities:
• Create design concepts, layouts, and wireframes for AMI’s digital properties (web, app, mobile)
• Design beautiful user interfaces that deliver great digital experiences for all users
• Work with UX testers to validate design solutions to ensure all products meet usability and accessibility requirements
• Work collaboratively with the Developer and Marketing to provide concepts and UX direction at all project stages
• Apply human-centred design methodology and best practices to ensure audience needs and business goals are met
Requirements:
• Diploma/Degree in Media Design or related program at a post-secondary institution or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated experience in product/web design, and a relevant portfolio
• Proficient in Adobe CS (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro DC)
• Awareness of accessibility standards and requirements including AODA and WCAG 2.1
• Solid understanding of UX/UI best practices, design theory and practical tools
• Experience designing for personas with varying abilities is an asset
• Experience building prototypes for user testing with tools such as XD, InVision, Sketch, Figma, Axure, etc.
• Familiar with capabilities of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS)
• Empathy for – and curiosity to understand – the experiences of disability communities in the digital space
