Growing Sense

Rosmarie and Milena investigate their crops in the garden.

Meet Milena Khazanavicius and Rosmarie Lohnes. New friends with a common belief: regardless of challenges, each of us has the power to make a positive impact on our own lives and the environment through gardening and sustainable living.

Before losing her sight at the age of 22, Milena had been a floral designer with a dream of opening her own shop. Although she wasn't able to pursue that career path, that hasn't stopped her from finding other ways to connect with nature.

Rosemarie is a veteran ecological landscaper who restores damaged landscapes and believes that when we heal the earth we heal ourselves. Her passion is to create and restore sustainable ecosystems that connect people with nature.

Growing Sense is a 10-part documentary series that follows Rosemarie and Milena over the course of a full growing season in Nova Scotia as they construct accessible garden plots at Common Roots Urban Farm in Halifax, grow a variety of different food, tackle tough landscaping projects, and cultivate a new friendship. With these two dynamic women there will always be something new and exciting cropping up in the garden.
